Types of lime kilns

In this article, we are going to introduce the two main types of lime kilns.

Horizontal or rotary furnace:

Rotary kilns are a common lime kiln that is very similar to a cement kiln. Lime rotary kiln is made in the form of a horizontal cylinder whose inner layer is covered with refractory bricks. The method of operation of this furnace is that the furnace rotates around its axis with a slope of about 3 to 5%. Guides the limestone gravel forward to cool at the bottom of the furnace. The reason for using this kiln a lot is because it is possible to use very fine limestone and get quicklime.

Vertical shaft or furnace:

This furnace is like a horizontal steel and cylindrical, but it is upright and vertical, and its inside is also covered with refractory bricks. This furnace is one of the economical furnaces because it consumes little energy. But the size of the imported limestone should not be less than 15 to 20 cm. If smaller stones enter the furnace, it will cause the furnace to suffocate and not work properly.

These furnaces are usually produced with two types of single shaft or twin. Single shafts usually produce between 50 and 120 tons of quicklime per day. The twins produce between 250 and 600 tons of lime in 24 hours.
